About Me…..
Hello!
My name is Christine Warren and sewing isn’t just my job, it’s my passion. I’ve enjoyed sewing and needleworking since I was very young. As a child, I learned cross stitching, needle pointing, crewelwork, and other various forms of hand stitching (everything that didn’t require the use of a sewing machine). I enjoyed it, but I wasn’t thrilled. My dream was to use a real sewing machine—not a toy machine or something that was masquerading as a “sewing machine”. The day I learned to sew on my grandmother’s sewing machine, I knew I had found my calling. That first attempt at sewing was a disaster but it didn’t discourage me. If anything, it fueled my interest in sewing and encouraged me to try again.
Throughout my teenage years, I created many items, attended classes in my community and read every available article I could find on sewing. To expand my sewing knowledge, I studied with many talented people. While I was a Business undergraduate student at the Univ. of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, I undertook 2 sewing apprenticeships with 2 local sewing masters in my community. The first in tailoring and the second in creative sewing. I love the discipline of tailoring and the refinement of my sewing techniques; but I truly love the freedom that creative sewing affords me. Mistakes are not mistakes. Instead, they are deliberate artistic statements. When I finished my apprenticeships and college, I began my own business. Initially, I offered original wearable art garments for sale. I enjoyed limited, local success with those early designs, but I yearned for more. After switching to embroidery and an interesting phone call, I entered the world of pageantry. For the last 22 years, Christine Warren sashes have been internationally regarded as the premiere pageant sashes. The benchmark in quality.
While I have enjoyed working with many wonderful people in the pageant world, I felt a calling to return to my creative sewing roots as I noticed the number of individuals who were closing their sewing studios. Hopefully, with the launch of my blog, “The Creative Sewist,” I will inspire others to explore the sewing field and broaden their views of creative sewing!
I look forward to this new venture and thank you for taking time to visit. Please check back often as I will update the blog on a weekly basis! If you have a sewing related question or would like to submit a topic for discussion, please send your inquiry to thecreativesewist (at) gmail (dot) com
